Hello! Hope you’re enjoying the beginning of spring! This past week I had the honor of working in New York during Fashion Week and also visiting New York for the first time! Phyto, the hair care line we use at Janet St. Paul (the salon where I work), had a competition. The competition was based on braid photos, hashtagged #phytousa, posted on Instagram, which were submitted from stylists all over the world. Phyto picked three winners who each won a trip to NYC to work along side Orlando Pita for Derek Lam’s show at NYFW. I was selected! I’m going to share with you some behind-the-scenes photos, where I ate in NYC, and what I did!
The first few days I was there it snowed! I don’t think I’ve actually ever seen falling snow, being from Texas.
My mom and I enjoying the snow at The High Line, an old above ground railroad that they have converted into an urban park.
The first night in town I had the honor of going to dinner with Francois, the President of Phyto. He is such a wonderful person and has a great perspective on hairstylists and what we do in this industry.
Of course we went to Grand Central Station which was on the same street as our hotel. So beautiful!
Chelsea Market was one of my favorite things that we did. While we were there they had a pop-up shop going on showcasing local designers. I love going to things like this whether its in Austin or traveling. My mom and I found a lot of great handmade jewelry. Alongside great food and anything else you could imagine.
Visited The Whitney and saw some great American art. They have such a beautiful space at their new location.
I kept trying to imagine what fashion week would be like to prepare myself. It was more than I could’ve ever expected. I feel so lucky to have gotten to work backstage. Everyone I met was so wonderful and welcoming.
Backstage in the hair room, this is where we worked.
My beautiful model! She has stunning features.
Before the show started they lined up to do a photoshoot with each outfit.
Places I ate:
- The Butcher’s Daughter
- Peacefood Cafe
- Vspot (Went there twice!)
- Blossom Du Jour
- Vegan Divas
- The Little Beet
- Beyond Sushi
- Two Hands
- Stumptown Coffee (Coffee)
- Joe (Coffee)
Thanks so much for reading! I hope you feel like you got a glimpse of New York and maybe some great spots to check out if you ever get to visit.
I also got to do an interview about my experience working in fashion week, give it a watch!
